Mao Xie

Mao Xie is a varietal that is native to the Anxi county in Fujian, China. It's a type of se chung wulong, which basically means it's not a tieguanyin (a more well-known and, therefore, more expensive type of tea.) When we drink this tea, we get clean floral notes like orchid, very present honey-sweet, as well as faint umami. This tea has a very dense, rich and cream body.

This rolled wulong translated from the Chinese, Mao Xie, means Hairy Crab. (Obviously, we kept the traditional Chinese name instead.) This name comes from its leaf features. There are little downy hairs on the irregularly-shaped leaves and when rolled, the stem protruding and the wonky shape of the leaf sometimes resembles a crab’s body/claws.  Don't let the name scare you off, this tea has really impressed us and we are excited to offer it to you!
