When you're sinking this kind of money into your home brewing equipment, it'd better last, and Baratza delivers on quality of parts and quality of experience.  They've cleverly put together their DC motor (keeps your beans cool, even during extended grind times) with a combination of electric and gear speed reducers to slow the burr to 450 RPM.  This makes for reduced static buildup (if you've never bought a grinder before, this might seem silly... if this ain't your first rodeo, you know how inconsequentially important those last two are).
