When Ben and Kristy Carlson moved to Burundi in 2011, they saw that injustices and poor farming practices permeated the country's coffee industry. They also recognized that roasters had a challenging time getting consistently great coffees from Burundi. In an effort to see positive change in both farmers' and roasters' lives, Long Miles Coffee was born. Long Miles is now a well established farmer-driven coffee production model working with over 5,500 coffee farming families on eleven unique hills within Burundi. Gaharo Hill, where this coffee is from, was the first hill and washing station established by Long Miles. The land that the Bukeye Washing Station sits on was once forgotten. To build the station, every inch of it was cleared by Gaharo farmers and bricks were made from clay found in the valley below. The same farmers who helped to build Bukeye now deliver their cherries to it. This cup is more than just coffee, it's the culmination of years of community building, hard work, and big dreams.

Our coffee bags are now recyclable - just return your used bag to any of our cafés and we'll take care of the rest.
